I can’t remember the names for my life except that the rider’s name was Lindsay(sp?). If you know, tell me so I can put them up
-Day 1 Course-
Left lead canter down the side and over the pole without jumping the pole.
Circle around the cone to set up for the jump.
…Jump.
Halt in front of the barrels.
Back around the barrels without touching them.
Canter a large circle from the back of the barrels, inbetween the pole and the jump, to the sidepass poles, all while holding a sword with a ball in the cup on top. Not supposed to drop the ball.
Halt at the sidepass poles.
Sidepass the poles.
Catch the hanging ring with the lance (ring jousting).
Canter to the finish line and halt.
-Finals Course-
Canter a small circle to the left then extend the canter and make the circle bigger.
Change lead in the middle (they had a choice of simple or flying change).
Extended canter large circle on the other side, then collect and canter a small circle.
Balanced halt at the starting point.
Turn on the haunches 2x around.
Leg yield through the cones; cones were a triangle formation.
Sidepass over the barrel.
Run around the other barrel xD
Then all the finalists had to make up a routine set to music that they were to ride with their celebrity riding partner/clinician.
When they first walked into the ring during the first day I was like ‘I WANT THEM TO WIN!’ solely because I’m a sucker for big black ponies, especially with TB in em
Then, they dominated and I went ‘hey, they might win!’ xD
The horse was freaking out at the barrels when they first started, and he did little baby rears, then she pet him and he went *perfectly* Horse whisperer much?
All pictures and videos were taken by me.

Meredith Manor? Findlay? William Woods? Lake Erie College?
I am considering all of these schools. Problem is I am in California and can’t get out there to visit them yet…Does anybody here have any experience with these schools?
I would be going to Equestrian Rider Amazon.com’;return true;” onmouseout=”self.status=””>learn about training. From the websites, Findlay and Meredith Manor sound the best for this.
I am a bit iffy about Meredith Manor…They ONLY have equestrian classes which is very nice and focused…but kinds of skews my idea of college. And “Meredith Manor”?? It sounds like…eh, not even going to say it..I’d probably get reported. On the other hand, they seem the most horse focused.
So anything you have heard/experienced with these schools would be a huge help.
Oh, and I would like to bring my own horse with me and use him in the program which only MM and Findlay allow. The others have nearby boarding barns but you can't use your horse in classes.
I don't have that much actual experience with horses (6 years riding/1 year owning) and I can't find anywhere on any of the websites what type/how much experience you need to have
I already finished my GED for college in high school so MM is still and option I guess…even if it is weird.
Um…other information:
I jump and do low, low, LOW level dressage (and I am nowhere near good)
I would be applying for fall 2010
I have a friend that goes to Findlay and she seems to like it. I don’t get to talk to her too much because she’s a few states away though. From what she has said though, it’s a good school. I’m majoring in Equine Management for training and such but I’m not going to any private colleges like these due to price reasons. If money isn’t an issue, I would recommend checking out Findlay. Findlay was my first choice but now I’m attending UW River Falls in WI.

I do mainly show jumping and some dressage and eventing. I don't know what to do to be more fit in way that would help my riding.
Weight-training:
You need to train strength in endurance (as opposed to power or speed), so you need to get yourself stronger, but not super strong, just pretty strong for long periods of time. So if or when you lift weights, don't bother setting really high weight goals…keep them lower but do many reps (such as 15-20, even 30). The more reps you do, the more lactic acid you'll build up, the more experience you have in that condition, the more your body learns to adapt & become more efficient. Work on all your muscles cuz riding's demanding (esp jumping), but put extra focus on your quads/thighs, abs, upper & lower back, & shoulders. Try to do exercises that are as close to the actual moves you do in riding as possible…Squats, leg lunges, rowing (as you would in a rowboat), lateral dumbbell raises forward, & situps.
Jump rope – Quad strengthening, endurance training, shoulder strengthening, & timing.
Stair running – Quads, cardio, & timing.
Hopping cones: If you can (at a gym somewhere?), set up cones/platforms/etc to hop around & over, on one & both legs. Create a fun obstacle course. – Strengthens quads, endurance, plyometric training for explosive movements (such as leaping out of your saddle or leaping forward to score a takedown on another wrestler; also great for ski conditioning).

I have an outdoor sand riding arena and I'm constantly battling weeds in the spring. What is the best way to stop them from growing in the first place? Any treatment out there that I can mix in the sand to keep weeds away before they sprout? Weeds are star thistle and other types of thistle and burmuda grass. I'm located in Northern CA if that makes a difference. My arena is 175 x 80 ft. Thanks!
The only products I know of are not very eco friendly…Roundup..killex…etc salt or spray with a little gas your state or local laws may not permit the use of any or all of these…The one thing you should do is keep ALL equine out of said area!!! ( just kidding…sort of..)You can also mechanically turn the sand exposing the roots to the sun and they will die.Try a spike tooth harrow.
