I am doing a mini show after my horse camp. I need ideas and tips on easy ways to groom horses. Any tips or ideas? I need them quick! Thanks alot!
I am doing a show at camp. It is nothing big and I dont have any acess to supplies besides a curry, brushes and hoove cleaning tools. Do you have any ideas for the mane besides braids?that would be great!
A day or two before the show, bathe your horse very well. If he/she’s white, then use a whitening shampoo and let it sit for a little bit. Then rinse it off, and your horse should be you cleaner. If you totally want to keep him gorgeous, you can put a scrim sheet on him. When he’s totally dry (totally; not damp), you can clip his ears and muzzle, and maybe his legs if they are shaggy. When you clip his ears, tip them down and squeeze his ear so that the hair won’t fall into the sensitive ear canal.
Hope I helped!

How much training would a young Equestrian Rider Amazon.com’;return true;” onmouseout=”self.status=””>horse, let’s say 5-6 year old need to start in hunters? Can an intermediate adult rider handle such training?
a lot. i am currently training my 6 yr old gelding to be a junior hunter, and we have been doing the 2′6"-2′9" for almost a year and he has been ridden 5-6 x per week. it requires a LOT of training to get the horse to be fancy and ready for teh show ring at the big A or AA shows, but you can start out by taking them to C or B shows and trying their experience there. it takes a really long time and a lot of patience, but with the help of a trainer i’m sure you could take it on. just don’t expect it to all happne in the blink of an eye!

My daughter has been riding for 2 years and has taken stable management course and attended pony club for a few months now. I would class her as an intermediate Equestrian Rider Amazon.com’;return true;” onmouseout=”self.status=””>rider and she has had a horse on loan for the past 2 years. Its now time to get her her own horse and we are thinking of an Irish Sports Horse.
What do you think?
Some of the answers last time you asked the same question were quite good.
Irish Sports Horse covers a big variety of horses form cobs, Near RIDs to near TBs. For a first horse you need one with a bit of experience and a temperament and demeanor that allows for mistakes.
I wouldn’t be too specific about any breed if I was searching – Have heights & ability in mind and don’t be in a rush.

OR, preferably, what is the youngest Equestrian Rider Amazon.com’;return true;” onmouseout=”self.status=””>horse training age? Like I want to get a horse, and my parents are thinking about it? and i saw this mustang mare for 1500. She’s only 2, so she needs to be trained. How old would i have to be to train her?
horses usually train at about age 2.
idk, if ur a teen and old enough to have responsibilities, u should be able to train the horse. tho, i think it might be best if ur at least 14 years old. if u want to break in the horse (to ride on it), u might have to be an adult, for horses can be really violent like bulls against cowboys!

I want to open a Equestrian Rider Amazon.com’;return true;” onmouseout=”self.status=””>horse boarding/training facility, focusing on dressage, jumping, ect. but I’m having trouble coming up with a good name. any suggestions?
I named my place just tossing together horses and events of the day I started building the stables….There was a big thunder storm that came over, I only had five horses at the time, My little pony that I took as a abused and emaciated horse was named thunder thus was born the name
Thunder 5 Ranch and stables with the T5 brand
Put some thought into the land, the horses and what you want to present, and how you want it to represent you. I am just a old saddle bum and T5 fits me well…
Sounds like your going a little more to the upscale crowd (sorry to sterotype but rodeo bums and dressage showers are two differnet mindsets) but no one can make a name better than you can.

I have a QH cross and would like to braid him up at the horse show coming up in June. It’s a large horse show so I want him to stand out. He’ll be in english classes including equitation and pleasure. He has a longer mane, maybe 12in at the longest? It’s not evenly that long the whole length of the neck (unfortunatly). I’m not ready to cut it so was wondering what braids would be acceptable.
I think braiding would be fine. I’ve always braided when showing any english, just because I think it looks more polished, and nobody has ever said anything other than "Oh, your horse looks so nice!"
Schooling shows are normally a little more lax on attire, tack, and overall turnout than competitive shows, although looking nice is always good.
I’d braid the mane in lots of little braids, then roll them up and pin them(like you see the fancy draft horses). Then braid the tail in a sort of french braid to the end of the bone, and leave the rest hanging.
Good luck at the show!

We are staying in Rio Grande at the Wyndham Resort. Our youngest is 9 years old, so I hope he’s old enough to do these activities. Please let us know if the horseback riding is not a good idea! Thanks.
Hello,
your son should be just fine riding a horse. Plenty of kids ride horses here in PR. But anyone can get hurt on a horse so you need to be aware. They can give him a smaller horse. Also, if you decide to ride paso fino horses, they give a smoother and safer ride. Hacienda Carabalí is close to where you are staying.

As for the biobay tours, you can either go to La Laguna grande in Fajardo which is only a short drive away. Or you can go to Mosquito Bay on Vieques island in which you will need to take a boat. Both tours are on a kayak in the dark water until you reach the bay. You son probably want to ride in a double kayak with you. Very nice tour, but be sure to check the moon calenders for the night you go. Too much moon light will make you not see the glow as much. Enjoy

Also you can visit El Yunque rain forest. They have some trails that are easy enough for kids. Just be sure to wear sneakers or water shoes with rubber soles. You can also swim in La mina waterfalls.

I would like to start taking my grandson riding, but my daughter is a little fearful after hearing of a tragedy involving a young child dying after being kicked in the face, even though he was wearing a helmet.
So, while I know the risks are inherent, I was wondering if anybody makes a helmet with some sort of face protection?
Oh dear… I’ve seen little kids show up to ride in non riding approved helmets like football, hockey, and even motorcycle helmets. Not too good for safe riding and unlikely to stop a horse hoof. I looked up racing helmets for you (small sizes), but still no cage. Perhaps there is a small size bull riding helmet out there? Polo, likely not. I have to wonder if any kind
of cage will stop a steel shod horse hoof!
I did find a riding helmet that completely covers the ears like a motorcycle helmet, eventing maybe? I doubt the size Small is any better to fit than for polo or bull riding. http://www.kraemer-pferdesport.de/cgi/websale6.cgi?Ctx=%7bver%2f6%2fver%7d%7bst%2f3eb%2fst%7d%7bcmd%2f0%2fcmd%7d%7bm%2fwebsale%2fm%7d%7bs%2fkraemer%2dpferdesport%2fs%7d%7bl%2f01%2daa%2fl%7d%7bmi%2f244533%2fmi%7d%7bpi%2f6720%2fpi%7d%7bpo%2f1%2fpo%7d%7bfc%2fx%2ffc%7d%7bsid%2f1039006715ddd50e4efbda8a057c4beb%2fsid%7d%7bmd5%2f5becfc21c58f7b6f85f53d215b28e32c%2fmd5%7d
I just located a bull riding helmet in Xtra small. Scroll down from this page. (unless you also want kiddie size body protectors and chaps) Called Bullistic helmet. http://www.usrodeosupply.com/27-54

I am 13 years old and going to go to my first riding lesson on Saturday. I was just wondering what to expect to be Equestrian Rider Amazon.com’;return true;” onmouseout=”self.status=””>learning and doing. I am taking this lesson because to get into their horse camp you have to take one lesson with them. I am suppose to come early and tack up (i thinks that’s what you call putting the saddle on.) and stay late to clean the horse. What should I expect and will they tell me how to do this stuff?
If you’re a beginner and have never been around horses they will usually show you what to do, and then have you try it. Usually they’ll have you come, meet the horse, show you how to groom him/her and then they’ll most likely lead you around so that you have a feel for the horse.
Unfortunately I can’t say anything for sure because I don’t know how they like to do things. They might expect you to know how to deal with a horse in order to enter their camp, or they might ease you into the saddle. Just be prepared, and LET THEM KNOW that you are a beginner. And, never be afraid to tell your instructor if you are not comfortable doing something. Horses are big animals that can sense your fear. They feed off of your confidence, so being on a horse when you’re nervous can be a dangerous situation.
I personally don’t think that the one lesson evaluation is a great thing. It’s a good thing to take it slow, and not even ride on your own completely the first time. But they may just want you to come and see how you feel with riding.
Good luck, and have fun! Bonding and being around horses is one of the things in the world that comes so very close to magic.

On my first lesson, I started trotting, and I just about mastered it. My friend though, (who takes lessons at the same place and owns her own horse) says that she didn’t start cantering for about 5 or 6 months!
To all those who take horseback riding lessons, when did you start cantering, jumping or any of that fun stuff?
I’m 13 if that matters…
It will vary greatly by the person and the horse. I’ve had some people up to a full run on the first day and others never made it to a trot.
Go forward at a pace you are comfortable with.
